Wo Long Fallen Dynasty Wen Chou Lore

Wen Chou served under Yuan Shao from a young age, spending his days training vigorously with his sworn brother Yan Liang, and eventually became a renowned warrior in Yuan Shao's army. His imposing six—foot frame and heavily muscled build nearly allowed him to defeat Gongsun Zan at the Battle of lieqiao. Formerly human, he elected to use the Elixir on himself to further aid Yuan Shao in his quest for absolute power. He served Yuan Shao dutifully even after becoming a demon and slayed countless enemy soldiers. A single strike of his bone—crushing hammer would raze any and every foe who dared to stand before him.

He fought alongside his sworn brother Yan Liang at the strategic point of Baima in the Battle of Guandu. In their demonized forms, the two were unrivaled in strength and turned Cao Cao's army into a mountain of corpses. Realizing the threat they posed, Cao Cao deployed two of his most trusted warriors, Guan Yu and the protagonist. Wen Chou waited to ambush Cao Cao's champions along with Yan Liang, who was conversely slain by Guan YuWen Chou then managed to repel the two with his devastating hammer blows and bought enough time to inject Yan Liang with Elixir, bringing him back to life. Together they faced off against Guan Yu and the protagonist but were defeated, despite giving their all in the fight.

Strategy

This is a duo boss fight against the brothers Yan Liang, who is the slender demon wielding a blade and walks on all fours, and Wen Chou, the larger of the two, wielding a warhammer. Each boss has his own health bar and the most important note for this battle is that you must deplete their health bars at the same time. After killing one brother, you must defeat the other within about 10 seconds or else he will resurrect the dead one with 50% HP.

Yan Liang will often perform his basic 3-hit combo of a heavy wide swing to the left, and then to the right followed by an overhead slash. While this attack is slow, it can be tricky to dodge so watch your timing. However, once he initiates the combo, he will continue it to the end so you can take advantage of this by keeping to his backside and attacking when you have an opening. He is also very vulnerable after the last hit. He will sometimes hold both ends of his sword and smash it on the ground in front of him. This attack does not have much range but hits in a wide area, so dodge backwards.

Yan Liang will sometimes leap backwards, holding his sword in his mouth and then slash forcibly, with his blade extending by a hidden chain in the pommel. This attack has a incredibly large arc and long range so you will need to dodge through the swing. If successful, you can attack him during the recovery. Periodically, he will leap high into the air and toss his chain blade at you and then follow up with a dive bomb. You can deflect and counter the dive bomb for huge Spirit damage.

Wen Chou performs very basic swings and smashes with his hammer which can still prove deadly with the amount of heft behind his strikes. He will typically perform two horizontal swings from either side to the other. Sometimes, he will follow up with a vertical smash or perform two vertical smashes in a row. He also has a Critical Blow which starts off with a heavy overhead smash followed by two somersault smashes. If you deflect the first strike, you will stop the rest of the combo and deal huge Spirit damage.

When both brothers are alive, they may perform a duo Critical Blow which involves Yan Liang jumping to Wen Chou who then spins him around by his chain blade before tossing him towards you. Stay away from the brothers during the spinning portion and then deflect Yan Liang when he flies towards you.

It's best to let Guan Yu handle Wen Chou while you focus down Yan Liang, but try to keep their HP bars at the same level throughout the fight and remember to defeat both within seconds of each other to prevent them from resurrecting each other.

Yan Liang & Wen Chou Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
General
Resurrect When either brother is killed, the surviving brother will inject them with Elixir after about 10 seconds, returning them to life with 50% HP. Keep both Boss' HP around the same level throughout the fight and defeat them within ~10 seconds of each other.
Brothers Critical Blow Used when both brothers are alive. Yan Liang jumps onto Wen Chou who then spins him around by his chain blade. After a while, Wen Chou throws Yan Liang towards you. Stay away from Wen Chou during the spinning portion of the attack and prepare to deflect Yan Liang as he flies towards you. If successful, this deals a huge amount of Spirit Damage.
Yan Liang
Standard Blade Combo Yan Liang performs a heavy wide swing to the left with this blade and then another to the right followed by an overhead slash. Dodge through the first slash and move to his back. The combo has poor tracking and once he initiates the combo, he will continue it to completion in the same general direction, allowing you to attack him from the back. Alternatively, you can deflect the final blow for a good amount of Spirit damage.
Sword Smash Yan Liang holds both ends of his sword and smashes it on the ground in front of him. Dodge backwards. The attack does not have much forward range but does hit in a wide area.
Chain Blade Slash Yan Liang leaps backwards while holding his sword in his mouth. He then slashes forcibly, with his blade extending by a hidden chain in the pommel. This attack has an incredibly large arc and long forward range. Dodge through the slash and attack him during the recovery.
Dive Bomb Critical Blow Yan Liang leaps high into the air and tosses his chain blade at you. He will then follow up with a dive bomb. Deflect and counter the dive bomb for huge Spirit damage.
Wen Chou
Standard Hammer Combo Wen Chou performs two horizontal swings from either side to the other. He can follow this up with a vertical smash. Dodge through both swings, parry if possible. Blocking the attacks costs a large amount of Spirit.
Vertical Smash Wen Chou performs a powerful overhead smash with his hammer. He will sometimes follow-up with a second smash or chain this move into his Standard Hammer Combo Dodge to either side and attack if he does not follow-up.
Whirling Hammer Wen Chou swings his hammer around several times while advancing towards you. Sprint away or dodge through one of the swings as he cannot change directions very well after initiating the attack.
Hammer Smash Critical Blow Wen Chou performs a heavy overhead smash, followed by two somersault smashes. Deflect the first strike to stop the rest of the combo and deal huge spirit damage.
