A Tale in China's Storied Past

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty takes place in 184 A.D. China and follows the events leading towards the fall of the long and prosperous Han Dynasty. A nameless militia soldier fights for survival amidst the height of the Yellow Turban Rebellion bolstered by a Demonic infestation that threatens to throw the world into chaos.

This is a tale of legends in the making, as key players of real-life historical events referenced in the fabled Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel come into their own and become the iconic figures known today.

Intense, Fast-Paced Combat

Combat in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty takes the formula established by Team Ninja in the highly successful Nioh series and expands upon it, adding new layers to an already rock-solid Action RPG experience that demands skill, patience and adapting to overwhelming odds. Wo Long continuous the tradition of a melee-centric, punishing battle system and blends it with the fantastic, stylish and blindingly fast martial arts maneuvers seen in the Chinese Wuxia film genre and other works of art.

These elegant melee exchanges draw on the Yin and Yang philosophy of opposing yet interconnected forces, inspiring its Spirit Gauge mechanic — a resource that teeters between positive and negative values based on actions taken. The attacks and defenses of players and enemies alike are fueled by this fluctuating resource, and the mastery of the Spirit Gauge is the key to overcoming challenges presented to players.

Icons of the Three Kingdoms

On their journey to quell the threats in the country, the Protagonist will come across key characters who are an integral part of the Three Kingdoms saga such as Zhao Yun, Zhang Liang and Lu Bu. The majority of these are still unknown to the rest of the world as the story focuses on the very beginning of these prominent events in China's history. Some of these characters may become friends and allies while others may have serve sinister agendas.

Characters encountered throughout the story can be recruited to aid struggling players and each of these officers and commanders have their own abilities, combat proficiencies and fighting styles that can contribute to the player's success on missions.

Wield Ancient Chinese Armaments

Master an arsenal of traditional weaponry based on ancient Martial Arts, from Straight Sabers, Glaives and Polearms to Dual Swords, Staves and ranged weaponry such as Bows. Use every tool at your disposal as an extension of your body and a projection of your will to overcome adversity.

The Protagonist will have many different weapon types to choose from and they can seamlessly switch between two different sets for an impressive and seamless fighting experience. Each weapon comes with its own Martial Arts skills which can be woven into regular attack chains to create devastating combos, with rare weapons having access to stronger abilities.

Tap Into Martial Arts & Wizardry

Punctuating the intense combat are the Martial Arts Skills available on Weapons, which deal heavy damage to combatants and provide additional utility such as agile maneuverability around opponents or powerful counterattacks. Martial Arts Skills are satisfyingly flashy and exciting to pull off but require skillful use as enemies can utilize Martial Arts moves of their own.

On the mystical side, the Protagonist can utilize secret Wizardry Spells by drawing on power from the Virtues of the Five Phases. These elemental spells have various effects ranging from damaging single-target projectiles, destructive area-of-effect blasts, elemental weapon enchantments to healing and other buffs. Wizardry allows players to succeed in situations where weapons are less effective and it goes hand-in-hand with Martial Arts to provide players an edge in the most difficult combat scenarios.

Call on the Power of Divine Beasts

Repel the Demonic horde with the holy light of the Divine Beasts from Chinese mythology and folklore. Once again drawing from the Five Phases, players can bolster their capabilities by summoning these benevolent creatures after filling the Divine Beast Gauge through dealing and taking damage in combat. Once ready, the Divine Beasts can be unleashed on the battlefield, providing varying effects such as dealing very heavy damage to a single target, clearing an area with devastating area-of-effect abilities, healing the protagonist and their allies, or disabling opponents with crowdcontrol effects.

Players can also resonate with their currently equipped Divine Beast. Instead of directly interacting with opponents, Divine Beast Resonate instead massively buffs the Protagonist with different effects such as increased health, attack, defense and chance to critically hit with attacks. Resonation will often enchant the player's weapon with the Divine Beast's corresponding element, further adding to their offensive capabilities. Both forms of aid from the Divine Beasts can quickly turn the tide of battle and give players an edge in the toughest situations.
