A Limited-Time Demo for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was made available on September 16, 2022 for the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms. It will be playable from September 16 to September 25, 2022 only. It is an advanced build of the game showcasing an entire Mission with plenty of action, enemies to defeat, weapons and armor to collect, spells and Divine Beasts to try out, and is a great opportunity to learn the mechanics of the game.
While the demo is strangely absent for the Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC, the devs assure that the full game will release on all these platforms as well.
Note that an active Internet Connection, as well as relevant platform subscriptions (Playstation Network, etc.) are required in order to play the Demo regardless of whether or not you wish to try out the Online features.
What Content is included in the Demo?
The Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Limited-Time Demo is a near full-featured build of the game that showcases many different aspects at this point in its development. The following is a list of what players can expect from this demo:
- A robust Character Creation system akin to those seen in Nioh and Nioh 2. The Character Creator is very detailed and has a very diverse set of options for players to fine-tune their character's appearance. It even includes a Character Creation Code generator for users to share their appearance settings with other players.
- A full, detailed Tutorial that goes over every single aspect of Combat and allows players to learn the ropes without subjecting them to the extreme challenges expected of a Team Ninja title.
- An entire Mission that takes place in the Guigugou Valley, one of the major locations of the game. This mission will have players facing off against many challenging foes both human and demonic. There is also a major Boss Battle at the end of the demo, allowing players a taste of what is to come when the game releases next year.
- Players can accumulate Genuine Qi and level up their character by investing them into points in one of the Five Phases. This can be done at any Battle Flag. Leveling up and formulating your build will improve your chances of succeeding in battles.
- Many different types of Weapons are available, each with their respective Martial Arts skills so players can experiment with builds. The Loot and Equipment system are fully active and players will find plenty of equipment dropped by opponents and found around the level.
- A large list of Wizardry Spells are available for players to try out. Note that upon creating your Character, you are asked to select a character archetype based on one of the Five Phases. This only affects what you start with in the demo but it is fully customizable and you are free to equip any of the available spells to your liking.
- 5 different Divine Beasts are immediately available and can be switched out at any of the Battle Flags. These powerful creatures can quickly turn the tide of battle and give players an edge in the challenges they will face.
- Online Multiplayer is available in the demo. Players can use a Tiger Seal at any Battle Flag to summon other players into their world to engage in Co-Op play. Alternatively, they may use a seal to summon Zhao Yun, an NPC and one of the warriors of the Three Kingdoms era who will aid the player in overcoming the toughest challenges.
What do you get for completing the Demo?
Completing the Limited-Time Demo will award players with the Crouching Dragon Helmet which will carry over into the full release of the game. Additionally, completing the demo will allow players to fill up a quick survey to help devs further finetune the game before its release.
Will there be more Demos in the future?
As of this writing, it is unknown if more Demos will be made available for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. However, basing off of Nioh, Nioh 2 and the more recent Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, all Team Ninja-developed games which were subject to multiple Playable Demos before release, it is highly likely that Wo Long will receive the same treatment, especially due to the fact that the this Demo is available only to 2 out of 5 platforms the game is slated for release on. - It contains Chapter 1: Village of Calamity and Chapter 2: Two Chivalrous Heroes, two of the game's early chapters. This will introduce you to the first few Characters that you'll encounter. Also, when the complete game is released, this one will carry over your progress.
- A detailed Tutorial at the start of Chapter 1: Village of Calamity that goes over every single aspect of Combat and allows players to learn the ropes without subjecting them to the extreme challenges expected of a Team Ninja title.
- Introduces you to Marking Flags and Battle Flags. Marking Flags will allow you to increase your Fortitude, while Battle Flags will serve as your checkpoint and a spot where you can level up stats and equipment.
- The Demo will also introduce you to two Boss Battles from the 2 chapters available. This will give players a chance to experience a glimpse of what the game has to offer.
- Online Multiplayer is available again in the demo. Players can use a Tiger Seal at any Battle Flag to summon other players into their world to engage in Co-Op play.
