Decisive Battle of Guandu

Mission Start Text

"Just as Cao Cao was on the brink of losing to the massive demon armies commanded by Yuan Shao, victories at Baima and Yanjin allowed him to go on the offensive and maneuver to recapture Guandu. However, still in possession of the great quantity of Elixir taken from Lu Bu, Yuan Shao fights back.

Meanwhile, Yu Ji continues to work behind the scenes. He must be stopped."

Decisive Battle of Guandu Shitieshou Locations

There is 1 Shitieshou Demon in this main mission:

• After the battle against Yuan Shao, exit the temple, head straight and you'll find the Sixth Battle Flag next to Hong Jing. After raising the battle flag and making further preparation, from the battle flag, walk to the left and drop below to the ground. Here, you'll find a Shitieshou Demon, a chest containing x3 Rank 9 Steel, and a Golden Cicada Shell. You won't miss it since it's next to each other.

Decisive Battle of Guandu Dragon's Cure Pot Upgrades Locations

There is 1 Dragon Vein Essence item in this mission:

• x1 Dragon Vein Essence: near the Third Battle Flag of this mission, past the white tents. You'll eventually unlock the door of a house near the battle flag. In the same house, exit towards the branch path where you'll see a Zhu Yan demon ahead. Instead of going straight, head right, fight the large Huo Shu, and make your way towards a house in the lower section. The essence item is inside the chest.

Decisive Battle of Guandu Golden Cicada Shell Locations

There are 2 Golden Cicada Shell in this mission:

• Once you open the first large gate that's flanked by large statues turn around and look towards the ledge flanking the left hand statues. There is a smaller ledge you can drop down to that has the first Golden Cicada Shell.
• After the battle against Yuan Shao, exit the temple, head straight and you'll find the Sixth Battle Flag next to Hong Jing. After raising the battle flag and making further preparation, from the battle flag, walk to the left and drop below to the ground. Here, you'll find a Shitieshou Demon, a chest containing x3 Rank 9 Steel, and a Golden Cicada Shell. You won't miss it since it's next to each other.

Decisive Battle of Guandu Battle Flag Locations

There are 6 Battle Flags in this Main Mission:

• First Battle Flag: this Battle Flag is already available and raised at the starting point of the mission. (0 Fortitude)
• Second Battle Flag: this Battle Flag can be found next to the main gate of the fort, it is guarded by a Leishi demon. (+3 Fortitude)
• Third Battle Flag: Upon arriving at the courtyard, after fighting the Bronze Soldier statues, investigate the west section where you'll see multiple white tents. Keep going straight until you reach a house where you'll pick up the Cao Cao Army Prisoner's Note, then look left, jump up, and cross the red branch path, you'll see the Third Battle Flag on the other side. (+2 Fortitude)
• Fourth Battle Flag: found in an open field near the white tents in the fort's courtyard. You'll hear a growling demon when you approach the open field, which is the Aoye demon protecting it. Defeat it to raise the Battle Flag. (+3 Fortitude)
• Fifth Battle Flag: Unmissable, near the objective point before entering the boss area. It is protected by a Bronze Soldier statue. (+3 Fortitude)
• Sixth Battle Flag: Unmissable, exit the temple (boss area) after fighting Yuan Shao. It's beside Hong Jing. (+2 Fortitude)

Decisive Battle of Guandu Marking Flag Locations

There are 7 Marking Flags in this Main Mission:

• First Marking Flag: From the starting point, go straight, head west, clear the enemies, and investigate the northwest area where you'll encounter another Demonized Officer and a Demonized Warlock standing on a destroyed watchtower, just around the corner, you'll find the Marking Flag next to the ladder that you can kick down. (+1 Fortitude)
• Second Marking Flag: behind a barricade, from the fort's entrance, head west where you'll encounter a Leishi. Check the left side and you'll see two trebuchets machines operated by two Demonized Fanatics, guarded by a Demon Corpse. Use the trebuchet to destroy the barricade, then jump down and look to your right. (+1 Fortitude)
• Third Marking Flag: found in the inner courtyard of the fort. Head straight toward the house that is covered with branches of red vines, jump down and simply follow the linear path to find the Marking Flag on the other side. (+1 Fortitude)
• Fourth Marking Flag: after defeating the mermaid demons, Shuigui, go straight towards the branch path until you reach the top of the roof where you'll encounter a small Huo Shu. Grab the note, then walk to the edge of the roof on the right side, look below, and just drop on the ground. Inside the house, you'll find the Fourth Marking Flag. (+1 Fortitude)
• Fifth Marking Flag: you must defeat the Aoye demon that protects the Fourth Battle Flag. Raise the flag after slaying the demon and simply follow the path next to it. Climb to the top of the scaffold to find the spot of the marking flag. (+1 Fortitude)
• Sixth Marking Flag: For the sixth battle flag, retrace your steps to the area where you fought the Zhu Yan which also had multiple red sacs. There's a house ahead where you'll find a door that's locked and you'll hear a Warlock chanting, if you look on the left side, you'll see a branch path that connects around the walls and into that locked room. Inside, you'll find the Warlock and the Sixth Marking Flag. (+1 Fortitude)
• Seventh Marking Flag: Unmissable, near the objective point before entering the boss area. It's on the left side, opposite where the last Battle Flag for this mission is.

 

Decisive Battle of Guandu Walkthrough

Outskirts of Guandu Fort

For this main mission, there are 6 Battle Flags and 7 Marking Flags. The first Battle Flag is already available and raised at the starting point of the mission, look behind and grab the item on the ground before you proceed further. Jump down and be ready to fight some enemies here such as the Demonized Fanatic, including a large and small Huo Shu demons. The ladder on the left needs to be kicked down from the top, so head straight since this is the only path you can take — make sure to pick up the item o the ground to obtain x1 Disheartened Yuan Soldier's Note.

Follow the linear path, go right first where you need to jump down and fight a Demonized Fanatic. Open the chest and go back towards the direction on the left. Jump up to find more enemies such as the Chang Gui, Demonized Officer, and Demonized Warlock. The area here is pretty much open so tread carefully when fighting because you can aggro the other enemies here and it will be difficult for you to fight them all. After clearing the area, head up the slope on the right side where you'll encounter another large Huo Shu.

First Marking Flag

 

Here, you'll find a trebuchet, a mechanism used to throw large rocks at long distances. Kill the Demonized Fanatic enemy to stop it from using it. And on the left side, there's a ladder, climb to the top to find an item that you can loot. Head back down and proceed northwest where you'll encounter another Demonized Officer and a Demonized Warlock standing on a destroyed watchtower. After defeating the enemies, check the west corner of this section to find the ladder that you couldn't reach at the start, kick it down so that you can use it as a shortcut for the First Battle Flag, and next to the ladder is the first Marking Flag.

Continue heading west towards where you'll see a Corpse Demon enemy, don't go to the center of the battlefield first since you'll need to explore this section first. The Corpse Demon is quite strong since it has 7 Morale, so tread carefully. Continue heading west from here after you defeat the Corpse Demon and you'll find yourself at a dead end. Climb the watchtower that's guarded by a single Demonized Fanatic enemy, and loot the small chests.

Guandun Fort Entrance (West) - Second Marking Flag

 

Now head to the center of the battlefield and then go west where you'll see another Leishi demon roaming around, apart from the one guarding the entrance of the fort. After you defeat the Leishi, check the right side and jump on the red glowing branches. You'll find some items here that you can loot on the watchtower it's connected to, and on the left, you'll find two trebuchets. Kill the Demonized Fanatic and the other demon here to stop it from using the machine — there's also a small chest here, grab the loot, then pull the string of both trebuchets.

By using the trebuchet. you've destroyed one of the nearby barricades. Go down, look to your right, and you'll see the spot that was barred earlier, head towards it and you'll find a large chest containing x2 Rank 9 Leather and the Second Marking Flag. Now go back and jump on the red glowing vines and branches, you'll find a ladder here that you can kick down. Climbing down this ladder will lead you back to the main gate of the fort which is guarded by a Leishi demon.

Guandun Fort Main Gate - Second Battle Flag

 

The second Battle Flag for this mission can be found next to the main gate of the fort. But you will need to defeat the Leishi demon, the Demonized Warlock and Demonized Soldiers first before you can raise the Battle Flag. This provides you with +3 Fortitude. Now, the gate is actually locked and can only be opened from the other side, climb back up the ladder that you kicked earlier and use the red branches path towards a hole in the wall to reach the other side.

Guandun Fort - Inner Courtyard, Third Marking Flag

 

As you head inside, you'll immediately see more demons roaming the area. As you drop down, turn right, and go inside the house, there is a chest that you can loot. Then go straight towards the roaming Chang Gui and Zhu Yan. Keep going straight until you see a destroyed house that's covered with branches of red glowing vines, jump down, and follow the linear path to reach the other side where you'll find the Third Marking Flag.

 

Follow the branching path going west where you'll find another destroyed open house. A Chang Gui will ambush you here. Defeat the demon and pick up the item on the ground to find x1 Yuan Shao Assassin's Note. Head down the path towards the large soldier statues then jump down to the right side where you'll encounter another Corpse Demon. Be careful of the large red glowing sacs here since they will burst and Demonized Soldiers will spawn from it. Collect the loot from the ground after fighting the demons and proceed to the path with the multiple large Bronze Soldier statues.

 

Now, after fighting the Bronze Soldiers, you'll see a large gate ahead, you can open this since the gate lift mechanism is next to it on the right. Before you do this, check the west side of the courtyard where you'll see multiple small white tents and a large one. Defeat the enemies here and then go inside the large tent to find a chest, inside it you can find Rank 9 Leather with another item. Keep moving straight towards another branching path where you'll see a destroyed house that's been flipped over at the end. There's a note that you can grab here, x1 Cao Cao Army Prisoner's Note.

Third Battle Flag

 

From where you got the note, look to your left, you'll see you can jump on the platform, cross the red branches and vines, and you'll find the Third Battle Flag. Raise the flag and on the left side, there is a small chest. Next, go straight toward the large red sacs where you'll also encounter the mermaid demons, the Shuigui. But as you approach it, look to the right and check the corner of the house to find another branching path, walk up to it to find an item you can grab, x1 Sacred Lotus. Now go back to where the mermaid demons are and clear the area. Take caution when fighting, since breaking the sac will spawn more Shuigui demons.

Fourth Marking Flag

Just go straight and up the red branch path until you reach the top on a roof where you'll encounter a small Huo Shu demon, you'll find the "A Brief Explanation of Sun Tzu" that you can loot here. Then walk to the edge of the roof on the right side, look below, and just drop to the ground. Inside the house, you'll find the Fourth Marking Flag — you can exit the house after raising the flag by dropping on the ground below from the left side of the doorway.

Next, go back up to the roof of the same house, and this time, go straight, follow the linear path leading to another house, and unlock the door to reveal a shortcut back to the Third Battle Flag you previously raised. Exit the house ahead, not from the door you just unlocked, to proceed to the next area where you'll encounter a Zhu Yan. Be careful of the large sacs, breaking it will spawn more demons.

Dragon Vein Essence Location and Fourth Battle Flag

 

Before you fight the demons ahead, make a right where you'll encounter a large Huo Shu demon, defeat it and then continue forward towards a house below. Inside the house is a chest that contains x1 Dragon Vein Essence. After grabbing the item, clear the rest of the area first and return to the open field near the white tents to fight the Aoye demon that protects the Fourth Battle Flag. Once you've defeated the demon, you can raise the Battle Flag. Make sure to also loot the items on the ground, one of them is x2 Rank 9 Steel.

Fifth Marking Flag

After defeating the Aoye demon and raising the Battle Flag, the path next to it will become accessible. Not far from here, simply follow the path and climb to the top of the scaffold to find the spot of the Fifth Marking Flag.

Sixth Marking Flag

For the sixth battle flag, retrace your steps to the area where you fought the Zhu Yan which also had multiple red sacs. There's a house ahead where you'll find a door that's locked and you'll hear a Warlock chanting, if you look on the left side, you'll see a branch path that connects around the walls and into that locked room. Inside, you'll find the Warlock and the Sixth Marking Flag. From here, you can unlock the door and open the small chest to find x2 Cup of Cordiality.

Now, you can return to the area with the large Bronze Soldier statues and go through the gate, then return to climb the top of the tree branches and vines to reach the main temple of the fort, tread carefully since you will be invaded by an NPC, Guo Tu, and you'll fight more enemies ahead as you reach the temple.

Last Marking Flag and Fifth Battle Flag

 

Next, for the last Marking Flag and the Fifth Battle Flag, it is the easiest to find for this mission. When you reach the objective point before you enter the boss area, which is at the topmost section of these vines and tree branches, you'll find the Battle Flag on the right which is protected by a Bronze Soldier statue, while the Marking Flag is on the left side, you just need to jump across to reach it — if you're ready, enter the temple where you'll fight the boss of this mission.

Boss Battle: Yuan Shao

 For this boss battle, you will be fighting against Yuan Shao who has transformed into a demonic being. As soon as the battle starts, be ready to dodge his ice blast attack, he will use this twice, so dodge in succession. If you see a red glow, be ready to use a counterattack. Yuan Shao has a massive shield, when he raises the shield, you'll only apply little damage on him, and since the shield is quite large, it'll block almost all of your attacks. So wait for him to drop the shield or you can keep pressuring him with attacks, eventually, breaking it.

Yuan Shao will also release a burst of ice from his shield, causing a knockback effect and damage if you get hit. It's a close-range attack, so when he uses this, just move away from the shield. Simply defeat the boss to pursue Yu Ji. You'll acquire 40632 Accolades, and 17493 Copper, items will drop from this boss as well, and you'll obtain the Xuanwu Divine Beast.

Pursuing Yu Ji - Sixth Battle Flag and Collectibles

 

After the battle against Yuan Shao, exit the temple, head straight and you'll find the Sixth Battle Flag next to Hong Jing. After raising the battle flag and making further preparation, from the battle flag, walk to the left and drop below to the ground. Here, you'll find a Shitieshou Demon, a chest containing x3 Rank 9 Steel, and a Golden Cicada Shell. You won't miss it since it's next to each other. After interacting with the friendly demon and grabbing the cicada shell, go back up and reach the top area of the branch path to pursue Yu Ji.

Boss Battle: Yu Ji / Embodiment of Demonic Qi

This boss battle has two phases, first, you'll fight against Yu Ji himself, and later, he merges and transforms into a demonic being, the Embodiment of Demonic Qi. As the battle starts, be ready to dodge his icicle attacks, Yu Ji is one of the agile bosses you'll encounter and he will always try to close the gap between the two of you and will try to grab you. The key here is to watch when he tries to get close to you, and if you dodge at the right time, you can counterattack.

He also shoots out multiple toxic orbs that travel fast and eventually land on the floor. Simply avoid these until it disappears. Yu Ji can also conjure bolts of lightning that spreads from him, this can be dodged. Occasionally, he will fly in the air and conjure a large red orb at you, again, you can only dodge this. If he tries to do a grab move, you'll see a red glow, you can counterattack his move if you time it at the right moment, and then follow up with a flurry of attacks. This battle is manageable if you're careful and if you attack at the right moment, you can stagger him, eventually beating his human form.

When his health drops to 0 a cutscene will trigger where he merges with a demonic dragon, transforming into the Embodiment of Demonic Qi. This is the final form and phase for the boss battle against Yu Ji. As soon as the battle starts, Yu Ji will conjure multiple swords and swings them aggressively at you. To minimize the damage, you can block the attack or dodge it. Once he flies around, he will try to grab you, make sure to sprint away and dodge to avoid getting caught.

Similar to one of his attacks, he will also conjure a large red orb and throw it at you. Sprint towards him and then dodge roll so that you don't get hit. Most of the time this boss will be flying in the air, so the only time you get to land your attacks is when he's on the ground for a brief moment, which usually happens after he attacks. A good tactic to counter him is when he tries to grab you, you can use a counter block just when you're about to get grabbed. If you counter it, he'll drop to the ground and you can punish him with a flurry of attacks. Keep repeating this process while avoiding most of his projectile attacks — you'll complete this mission after defeating Yu Ji and you'll return to the Remote Mountain Village in the Langya State of Xu Province.
