Mission Start Text

Having undergone intense fighting with Cao Cao and Liu Bei, Lu Bu's strength began to wane, and he decided to withdraw to Xiapi. However, though Lu Bu may have been cornered, he still possesses the Elixir he took from Dong Zhuo.

Cao Cao's forces besieging Xiapi thus undertake a daring scheme to overcome Lu Bu before he gives in to the crimson glow.

There is 1 Shitieshou Demon to be found in Lu Bu, Mightiest Among Men:

• Found in the large pagoda, sitting on a platform attached to the back of the giant statue. Accessible after climbing to the pagoda's third floor.

Lu Bu, Mightiest Among Men Dragon's Cure Pot Upgrades Locations

There is 1 Dragon Vein Essence to be found in Lu Bu, Mightiest Among Men:

• After draining the water from the submerged section, you can find the Dragon Vein Essence to the left of a building by following the path from the Third Marking Flag.

Lu Bu, Mightiest Among Men Golden Cicada Shell Locations

There is 1 Golden Cicada Shell to be found in Lu Bu, Mightiest Among Men:

• Near the end of the mission in the stronghold's inner courtyard area. Go to the left side of the main stronghold building to find the Golden Cicada Shell next to a scaffolding leading to the window.

Lu Bu, Mightiest Among Men Battle Flag Locations

There are 7 Battle Flags to be found in Lu Bu, Mightiest Among Men:

1. First Battle Flag: Available from the start of the mission. It does not provide any additional fortitude.
2. Second Battle Flag: Found in the submerged section of the stronghold, near the western wall. (+2 Fortitude)
3. Third Battle Flag: Found in the submerged section of the stronghold, in the central area. (+3 Fortitude)
4. Fourth Battle Flag: Found inside the large pagoda's 2nd floor, behind the statue. (+2 Fortitude)
5. Fifth Battle Flag: After draining the water from the submerged section, go through the doorway on the ground floor of the pagoda, opposite the statue's feet. It is guarded by a Zhupolong . (+3 Fortitude)
6. Sixth Battle Flag: Behind the gates to the stronghold's inner courtyard. (+2 Fortitude)

Lu Bu, Mightiest Among Men Marking Flag Locations

There are 5 Marking Flag to be found in Lu Bu, Mightiest Among Men:

1. First Marking Flag: Found behind a wooden barricade along the left side of the besieged outer section. (+1 Fortitude)
2. Second Marking Flag: Found on top of a ledge on the ground floor of the large pagoda. Accessible by jumping through a hole on the first floor after draining the water from the submerged section. (+1 Fortitude)
3. Third Marking Flag: Found in the southeast building in the submerged section. After draining the water, you can drop in from the hole next to the scaffolding from the upper level by backtracking from the Third Battle Flag. (+1 Fortitude)
4. Fourth Marking Flag: Found behind a barricade in the submerged section after draining the water. Guarded by a Suan Yu. (+1 Fortitude)
5. Fifth Marking Flag: Near the end of the mission, look for a doorway on the right from the inside of the main stronghold building (where the Seventh Battle Flag is). Follow the path to a balcony with a scaffolding where the flag post is. (+1 Fortitude)

 

Lu Bu, Mightiest Among Men Walkthrough

Entering Xiapi Stronghold

You begin the mission on the outskirts of the besieged Xiapi Stronghold. Hong Jing will accompany you on this mission by default. The First Battle Flag will be found just ahead of you to the right. Make your battle preparations if you need to. You can get to the next area by jumping over the low ruined building just in front. Guo Jia (mistakenly labeled Zhang Jiao in the subtitles) can also be found standing to the left of this ruined building and you can speak to him for some context on the siege.

Outer Stronghold

In the next area, note the building on the right side with a rolled-up bundle of wood on the roof. Ignore it for now and go to the building on the left. Check its left side for Throwing Knife x 2 and then turn the corner to take the Lu Bu Officer out. There will also be two soldiers on the other side of the building, under a bridge connecting it to a watchtower. Defeat them and then check the ground nearby for a piece of Rank 8 Leather.  Go around the watchtower and climb it by using the ladder. At the top, ignore the bridge to the building from earlier as there is nothing there. Instead, jump over to the debris on the right to get to an enclosed area where you can find an Official Seal accessory on the ground.

Keep going forward past the debris and destroy the wooden barricade to exit the enclosed space. Watch out for the soldier on your left and another one just around the corner in the same direction. Check along the left wall of debris for another breakable barrier where you will find the First Marking Flag for +1 Fortitude.

Make your way back to the main area and go to the right side of the enclosed space from earlier. There will be three soldiers guarding the path to the next area, just before an archway made of debris. Past the archway, you will see a building submerged in the snow on the left. Behind it is another soldier waiting to ambush you. To the right, look for a low ledge with a brazier that you can jump onto. From here, you will be able to jump onto the roof of the building with the rolled-up bundle of wood from the beginning of the mission. Kick it down so you have a shortcut back up here from the First Battle Flag in case you die. Instead of dropping back down to the ledge that you used to get up here, check the corner of the roof where you can drop down to a narrow pathway where you can find a Jewel Fragment on the ground.

 

Keep following this path and jump over the debris to get back to where you were before the ladder. Along this path, a large brute with a battleaxe will be patrolling the area, defeat him and follow the path to get to the next area.

 

Submerged Section - Second Battle Flag

In the next section, you will end up by a wooden walkway with a brazier overlooking a massive, open space with lots of buildings submerged in water. You will need to navigate across the roofs of these buildings to progress towards the large pagoda in the distance. Before heading down the walkway, check the area to the left to find a Genuine Qi Clot on the snow-covered ledge.

 

Head down the walkway and fight your way through the soldiers on the roofs on the left side. Keep to the left and you will eventually come across a mini-fort created on top of one of the submerged buildings, with several soldiers on top of and around it. You an take some of them out from a distance with a ranged weapon. Behind this mini-fort is another roof with a Rank 8 Leather. Keep going past the fort and you will arrive close to the western wall where you will find three archers on top of rafts floating on the water. Take them out and collect the loot on the last raft which can contain a random item from any of the sets available in this mission (see equipment list on the right). Back pedal through the rafts and climb the building opposite them to find the Second Battle Flag which will grant you +2 Fortitude.

Submerged Section - Third Battle Flag

From the Second Battle Flag drop down and keep moving forward through the house roofs. You will notice a set of rafts leading towards the pagoda. However, this leads to a dead end until you kick down a shortcut on top of the building other end so ignore it for now. There is a Large Genuine Qi Clot on the raft closest to you and a Bear Gall in fornt of the building next to it which you can collect now.

Continue along the roofs on the path you were heading, indicated on the image above. One of the roofs will have a set of wooden rafts behind it:

Follow these rafts to find a Cup of Cordiality under a wooden bridge. After collecting it, back track through the rafts, back up the roof and continue heading east, crossing the wooden bridge the Cup of Cordiality was over. Continue heading east until you come across this large building by the walls in the southeast corner:

Remember this building as you will come back here later. It has a scaffolding you can use to climb to the roof for some loot and a Genuine Qi Clot to the left of the scaffolding. Also to the left of the scaffolding is a hole in the ground, but because of the water, you will not be able to drop down yet. From this building, head north, following the roofs and connecting bridges and you will find the Third Battle Flag guarded by a leader and a couple of his underlings on top of a large submerged building in the central area. After defeating them, raise the flag to gain +3 Fortitude. Note that this building has a large hole in one of the corners which you can use to get back up here later.

You can also go to the northeast building which has a couple of soldiers guarding it. There is another Large Genuine Qi Clot on one of the corners of the second story awning.

 

Submerged Section - Path to Pagoda

From the Third Battle Flag, look for this set of scaffoldings that you can climb over to find the path towards the large pagoda. There is a Genuine Qi Clot just in front of the scaffolding.

Climb over the scaffolding and make your way to the pagoda, but before entering, kick down the rolled-up bundle of wood to the left to unlock a shortcut to the set of rafts from earlier.

 

Inside the Pagoda - Fourth Battle Flag

When you enter the pagoda, you will see a gigantic statue in the center, and the Fourth Battle Flag to your right but the floor will come crashing down, forcing you to go down one level.

Jump down and defeat the enemies, then turn around and look behind the scaffolding you jumped down from for Fire Pot x 3. Continue in the other direction along the circular walkway, fighting off the remaining soldiers on this floor. You will see a hole in the ground on the right where you can see the glow of the Second Marking Flag, but you will not be able to get to it until you drain the water. Further along, there is a large hole in the wall on the right where you can pick up a piece of Heatproof Ice along the pagoda's exterior. Opposite the hole is a set of scaffolding wrapping around the statue where you can climb up.

Climb up the scaffolding to reach the floor above, kill the soldier behind the second pillar and climb up the second set of scaffolding to reach the third floor. Walk counter-clockwise from here and you will be almost above the Fourth Battle Flag. Make your way across to the large brute using the narrow section of flooring on the right side and defeat him. From where he is, look towards the statue to find a wooden platform attached to its back, with a Shitieshou Demon sitting on it. You can either jump to the platform and then down to the Fourth Battle Flag or simply use the ladder from the third floor. Raise the flag to gain +2 Fortitude.

 

Behind the Pagoda - Draining the Water

Go through the hole in the wall opposite the Fourth Battle Flag to wind up outside, behind the pagoda. Follow wooden walkway and defeat the soldier patrolling it to reach a building, inside which you will find a switch that controls a mechanism somewhere that will drain all of the water in the submerged section. There is also a Detox Jerky on the ground on the way to the building.

Rotate the switch inside the building to drain the water and you will now have access to those submerged sections. Head back outside to the walkway and jump down to the ledge below and collect the loot for a random piece of equipment. This path leads to the ground floor of the pagoda, but watch out for the Shuigui mermaid on the left.

 

Pagoda Ground Floor - Second Marking Flag

At the pagoda's ground floor, defeat all of the Demon Spiders lingering around. Some may be crawling on the ceiling as well, so watch out and take them out with ranged attacks. Check between the statue's feet for some Talismanic Water and behind one of the pillars for Throwing Knife x 2. There is a small area blocked by debris which you can get to by walking up the ramp next to it and jumping down. There is a chest inside this space with a random piece of equipment. You can now access the Second Marking Flag by climbing up the scaffolding on the statue to the first floor and dropping down the hole in the floor.

 

Raise the flag to gain +1 Fortitude.

 

Fifth Battle Flag

Go through the doorway on the ground floor of the pagoda, opposite the statue's feet to find a Zhupolong crocodile demon guarding the Fifth Battle Flag.

Defeat the crocodile and raise the flag to gain +3 Fortitude. The building behind the flag has a chest containing Rank 8 Leather x 2 and random pieces of equipment. Take the left path from the Fifth Battle Flag and look to the side of the building on the right for Rank 8 Steel x 1 on the ground behind the debris. Continue along this path and you will come across a pair of Shuigui mermaids. Defeat them and loot the item on the ground. At the end of the path is a large house on the right with an opening. Inside are a few Lu Bu Soldiers and an Officer. There are 2 x Throwing Knives on the ground here, and another 2 x up on a ledge to the left. From here, jump onto the ledge in the right corner, pick up the Tiger Seal and then keep jumping up to through the hole in the ceiling to get back to the Third Battle Flag where you can do some backtracking.

 

Third Marking Flag, Dragon Vein Essence & Fourth Marking Flag

Make your way back towards the southeast building from earlier with the hole next to the scaffolding. Drop into the hole to find the Third Marking Flag with a large brute and a soldier guarding the area.

Defeat the enemies and then raise the flag to gain +1 Fortitude. There is also a Tiger Seal x 2 on the ground here. Exit the building from the back and then turn left to find a cluster of buildings. The building just ahead has a chest on the right, guarded by a dual swordsman. The chest contains Rank 8 Leather x 2. There is another set of two buildings in the back, with a Dragon Vein Essence on the left side of the left one. Go through the narrow passage between the two buildings and turn left to pick up the essence.

Make your way back to the building with the chest in the image above and take the path behind it, jumping over the ledge to get to this area:

Take the northern path to find a chest containing random equipment and then head back and enter the building on the right in the image above. Inside, you will find a couple of wolves guarding another chest and a wooden barricade in the wall that you can break leading to a blocked-off area by the fortress' walls where a Suan Yu demonic crane will swoop in to ambush you. After defeating it, you can raise the Fourth Marking Flag by the climbing the ruined structures on the left.

 

 

Sixth Battle Flag

Get back into the building with the wolves and go through the hole in the back, guarded by a brute opponent with a poleaxe. Outside, keep to your left and follow the ramp up towards the building's roof. There is some loot you can collect by turning around once up on the roof. Follow the roof and you will find a chest and and a ramp on the right leading to the Sixth Battle Flag, just behind large gates to the stronghold's inner courtyard area.

 

Raise the flag to gain +2 Fortitude and then turn right and climb up the scaffoldings and walkways to reach a large hole in the wall that leads to the inner courtyard.

 

Inner Courtyard

Your goal here is the large, main stronghold building, but to get to it, you will need to navigate across the watchtowers and barricades which are littered with enemy soldiers. Make use of the watchtowers and take as many opponents out as you can from range to make things easier. There's plenty of loot to be found on and around the towers and barricades as well. While you can reach the staircase leading up to the main building by using the towers, it's best to take your time, and defeat opponents outside so you don't get swarmed. 

Once you reach the stairs in front of the main building, Chen Gong, an NPC invader will rush towards you. He shouldn't pose too much of a threat but lead him away from the soldiers in front of the stairs to single him out and then clear out the rest of the soldiers. Check the brazier on the left side of the first set of stairs for a Small Genuine Qi Crystal and another one on the right side of the top of the same set of stairs.

 

Seventh Battle Flag, Fifth Marking Flag

Instead of entering the main building from the front entrance, go around to the left to find a scaffolding that will allow you inside through the window. To the left of this scaffolding is a Golden Cicada Shell.

Entering the building from here will allow you to get the jump on the enemies inside. There is an archer perched on a ledge just to the right side when entering from the window and two officers guarding the Seventh Battle Flag along with a couple of soldiers.

Raise the flag to gain +3 Fortitude and then collect the Genuine Qi Crystal behind it, and the chest to the left. Before going through the doorway in the back, check the right side of the room for a doorway to the right exterior of the main building, which is blocked off from the staircase area. Pick up the Rank 8 Leather on the ground and then turn right and jump down the balcony.

Climb the tower here to find the Fifth Marking Flag for +1 Fortitude. If you've raised all flags in the mission, this should bring your total Fortitude to 20. Make your way back to the Seventh Battle Flag and then follow the path behind it to the stronghold's final chamber where a cutscene will play and you will be engaged in the mission's final boss fight.

 

Boss: Lu Bu (Demon Form)

Lu Bu will take on a Demonic Centaur form after ingesting the Elixir during the cutscene. He is much larger in this form but still wields his halberd as well as fire magic.

His basic attacks include a very wide and slow double swing where he raises his halberd, swinging it around his head before slicing in an arc to the right and then bringing back around to the left. He will sometimes follow this up with a third swing so watch his movements. You can dodge through each swing and attack him during the recovery. When you are pressed up right against him, he will sometimes perform a double stomp with his hooves. Which hoof he uses first is random but you can avoid both by watching as he raises each hoof and dodging appropriately. When he twirls his halberd above his head, he is about to slam it into the ground right in front of him, which will release a shockwave in a medium radius around the point of impact. Once he begins twirling, move to his side or back to attack him. You will not be hit by the shockwave if you stand far enough to the back of him.

Periodically, Lu Bu will dash around the room while pelting you with fireballs. He releases the fireballs in a slow, staggered fashion and they are easy enough to dodge, but watch out when he stops running as he will be about to perform a long-ranged charge, followed by a frontal slam with his halberd. This frontal slam is sometimes used independent of the charge, but it is highly telegraphed as he will rear up, raising his front hooves up high. Once he charges, dodge to his side and remain there to get some hits in. At times, after he finishes running around the room, he will perform a giant leap instead, attempting to skewer you. Take this opportunity to deflect the attack as it will deal a huge amount of Spirit Damage.

At 50% HP, Lu Bu will power-up and begin to glow. Run away when you see him glowing as he will release several corrupted vines in a large radius around him. In this state, Lu Bu's halberd and hooves are imbued with flames, dealing much more damage, having a larger radius and applying the burn effect on hit. He will now perform a single powerful swing after a long charge-up time. After swinging the halberd, it will create a trail of fire that follows his swing direction so be careful with your dodges and do not close in too early.  His hoof stomps will also have a larger radius and deal fire damage.

If he holds his halberd to his left side, quickly move towards his back as he is about to perform a leaping uppercut, ending in a halberd slam that deals massive damage. When he raises his hoof to perform the frontal slam, pillars of fire will erupt around him as well, so make sure to also back away from him.

In this empowered state, when Lu Bu runs around the room, he will perform a mad dash towards you, scraping his halberd on the ground which will leave a trail of fire along his path. He will end the dash with an uppercut which you can deflect and counter for huge Spirit Damage. He will sometimes leap backwards and charge his halberd behind him and then slash upwards in front of him and then to his right, sending a trail of flames traveling along the ground in the direction of each slash.

Shortly after defeating Lu Bu, a series of cutscenes will play and you will gain the protection of Xiezhi, the Divine Beast, unlocking its fourth Divine Beast's Favor as the mission ends. First time completion will also award the following:

• Small Genuine Qi Crystal x3
• Taishan Champion Helmet x1
• Taishan Bandit Garb x1
• Taishan Champion Bracers x1
