Mission Start Text

"You and Hong Jing were advised by Zhao Yun to make for the rebels' base at Guangzong. However, avoiding a head-on encounter with the rebels requires the two of you to take a long, treacherous route northwards along the Taihang Mountains.

Guiguogou Valley has a beautiful breeze, but it seems that there are already uninvited guests in the valley, and there is no time to enjoy the views along the way."

• First Shitieshou Demon: From the Sixth Battle Flag, head down the slope on the right, around the corner, you'll find a small campsite where you'll see the friendly demon.

The Valley of the Crying Wraiths Battle Flag Locations

There are 7 Battle Flags that can be found at this mission:

• First Battle Flag: Unmissable, it's by the starting point of this mission. You already discovered this early on after completing the previous mission, Two Chivalrous Heroes. (0 Fortitude)
• Second Battle Flag: You'll find it by the wooden bridge where the NPC Blacksmith, Zhu Xia is. Just a few steps from the starting point, past the first enemy group you encounter. (+2 Fortitude)
• Third Battle Flag: Past the bridge from the Second Battle Flag. It is guarded by a group of enemies that consists of two soldiers, one leader, and a Warlock. You won't miss it since you'll immediately see it after crossing the wooden bridge. (+3 Fortitude)
• Fourth Battle Flag: Cross the rickety wooden bridge and another on the left, and you'll find a shattered temple that is being guarded by a demon tiger enemy, Chang Gui. You must defeat it before you can raise the flag. (+3 Fortitude)
• Fifth Battle Flag: North from the destroyed military campsite where you first encounter and fight the snake-like flying demon, Suan Yu. You must defeat the demon first before you can raise the Battle Flag under the pavilion. (+2 Fortitude)
• Sixth Battle Flag: From the Third Marking Flag, simply follow the linear path along the cliffside with the makeshift wooden platforms until you reach a ladder. Climb up then cross another rickety wooden bridge to find the post of the Sixth Battle Flag. (+2 Fortitude)
• Seventh Battle Flag: Located inside the cave from the den of the mermaid demon Shuigui. As you enter the cave through the waterfall, go right, defeat the patrolling Yellow Turban Soldier, and just head straight, you'll see it is guarded by empowered soldiers. (+3 Fortitude)

The Valley of the Crying Wraiths Marking Flag Locations

There are 5 Marking Flags that can be found at this mission:

• First Marking Flag: From the Second Battle Flag near the wooden bridge and the Blacksmith NPC, Zhu Xia, jump down from the Second Battle Flag and fight the enemies ahead. The Marking Flag is on a podium that is guarded by a Shaman enemy. (+1 Fortitude)
• Second Marking Flag: After planting the Fourth Battle Flag by the shattered temple, go up the ramps and walk along the narrow path. As you turn left around the corner, look to the left to find a wall with white markings. Jump to the top and cross two wooden bridges, you'll find the spot of the Second Marking Flag on the other side of the rickety wooden bridge. (+1 Fortitude)
• Third Marking Flag: From the military campsite where you found the Fifth Battle Flag, go south and follow the path where you'll encounter some enemies such as the Demonized Officer, Demonized Soldier, and Demonized Warlock. The flag post is by a dead end, past the short makeshift wooden bridge and you'll need to defeat the enemies nearby before you can raise the flag. (+1 Fortitude)
• Fourth Marking Flag: Follow the path from the location where you first encounter the Shitieshou Demon, near the Sixth Battle Flag. You'll see a single Yellow Turban Soldier that is empowered by three Shaman enemies. From the Shaman enemies, walk to the right, you'll find the Marking Flag's spot just by the corner. (+1 Fortitude)
• Fifth Marking Flag: Located inside the cave from the den of the mermaid demon Shuigui. As you enter the cave through the waterfall, go right, and defeat the patrolling Yellow Turban Soldier. And as you approach the spot where the last Battle Flag is, make a hard right, and jump on the ground platforms twice where you'll find the Marking Flag that is guarded by a Chang Gui. (+1 Fortitude)

 

The Valley of the Crying Wraiths Walkthrough

The Guigugou Valley - First and Second Battle Flags

This main mission takes place at the Guigigoi Valley, Ji Province, Zhao State. From the first battle flag, head down the slope to the left then right. You'll see some enemies ahead, at this point, you already have a Ranged Weapon such as a Bow, use this to eliminate them from afar. Standing on high ground on the left side of where the enemies are is a Leader type enemy, clear the area, pick up the loot, and continue towards the right. Jump down from the wooden platform, go right, jump down, and walk straight towards the makeshift wooden floor. There is a chest there that is guarded by one Yellow Turban Soldier.

Go back up and walk straight where you'll see a shirtless Yellow Turban Soldier ahead, eliminate the enemy and walk up a bit. Look to the right to see a section of the wall with white markings, jump to reach the top of the rock formation and you'll find an item you can loot. While you're on high ground, look below on the left and you'll see two more soldiers by a campsite. Eliminate them and approach the wooden bridge to find the NPC Blacksmith, Zhu Xia — next to Zhu Xia, by the bridge is the second Battle Flag.

Battlefield of Demons - Third Battle Flag

After raising the second Battle Flag and resting (if needed), cross the bridge and eliminate the single shirtless Yellow Turban Soldier, continue down the path on the right and your companion Zhang Fei will mention how the enemies ahead are different from the ones you've recently encountered. As you check the battlefield ahead, the area has multiple enemies and the third Battle Flag that is being guarded. When you're ready, jump across, pick up the loot on the ground, and jump down to fight the enemies. There are two soldiers, one leader, and a Warlock enemy near the stand of the flag. Make sure to defeat the Warlock first to lower the unit's Morale, then defeat the rest before you can raise the flag — there's also a large chest here to find loot.

Next, jump down to find another Yellow Turban Soldier, and then open the small chest that's on a wooden platform, next to some small boxes. Proceed to the right to find more Soldiers and a Wolf by the cliffside path. Continue forward but the cautious of the Shaman that's standing on high ground on the left. After killing the shaman, jump back down, look to the right and you'll see an item you can loot at a dead end, just be careful, there's a Demonized Fanatic enemy hiding in the bush. After grabbing the item, turn around, and continue up the path towards the wooden barricades, be cautious, there are more Demonized Fanatic enemies here that will ambush you.

Proceed forward after eliminating the enemies to find a rickety wooden bridge and a single Demonized Fanatic with its back facing you. Part of the bridge will collapse as you approach the enemy, causing you to fall, just go back up the path to return to the rickety bridge. After crossing it, go left to find another wooden bridge. As you cross it, look to the right and ready your bow, you can insta-kill the Shaman by shooting the head — cross the bridge and you'll find another battlefield that looks like a shattered temple with a Battle Flag, a Chang Gui is guarding that.

Shattered Temple - Fourth Battle Flag

Be cautious when fighting this demon since it has 9 Morale. Let your companions help out here especially if you need to back up a bit to heal. You will need to defeat the demon to raise the flag. After the encounter, look to the left to find a ladder that can be kicked down, then approach the spot to raise the fourth Battle Flag. From the Battle Flag, hug the wall on the right and jump up, walk to the left and you'll find an item you can loot on the ground. Next, turn around and walk forward a bit towards the wall with white markings, jump up twice, and look down to find a chest that is guarded by two enemies — grab the items in the chest and head back down where the Battle Flag is.

First Marking Flag

From the battle flag where you fought the Chang Gui, go down the ladder you kicked earlier and you'll find yourself back at the Second Battle Flag near a wooden bridge where Zhu Xia is. Cross the bridge towards where the Second Battle Flag is raised and jump down just next to it. Ahead, you'll see more Yellow Turban Soldiers and a Shaman enemy by a podium where you can find the First Marking Flag. Clear the area and then raise the Marking Flag that yields +1 Fortitude. Turn around and walk to the left to find a wall with white markings, jump on the wooden platform and pick up the loot on the floor, next to the small boxes, to find x1 Rank 1 Steel. Head back down and go south, following the ravine, where you'll find a small chest that is guarded by a single Yellow Turban Soldier, open the chest after killing the solider to find Rank 2 Steel and Rank 2 Leather, and you can also find another item that you can loot from the ground near here.

Second Marking Flag

Next, use the shortcut and go back to the shattered temple where the Fourth Battle Flag is and head up the ramps. Pick up the loot on the ground next to the bonfire and eliminate the demon enemy just on the right side of the bonfire. Continue walking on the narrow path and turn left.

Don't go straight first towards the path with the red vines, as you turn left around the corner, you'll see a wall with white markings. Jump up, grab the loot on the ground, jump up again, and cross the two bridges. On the other side of the second bridge that you cross, you'll find the second Marking Flag. This flag yields +1 Fortitude after raising it. This area is a dead end, so retrace your steps and continue towards the path with the red glowing vines.

First Encounter Against a Suan Yu Demon - Fifth Battle Flag

You'll see a single Demonized Fanatic enemy eating the vines as you approach it, you can backstab the enemy since it's unaware of your presence. After killing the enemy, grab the loot on the ground to find some items. Continue ahead and you'll encounter two Demonized Soldier enemies on the left. Climb up the platform after killing the enemies to find a destroyed military campsite, walk up a bit and a Suan Yu demon will descend from the air. The Suan Yu is an enormous demon resembling a grotesque bird. A foul, flying creature with a snake-like frame, four wings, six eyes, and three legs. Take caution since it has 18 Morale — defeating it yields 1710 Accolades and 1259 Copper.

After you defeat the beast, make sure to loot the bodies on the military campsite to find some items such as x2 Rank 2 Steel, x2 Rank 2 Leather, and other random loot. Go straight and jump across towards the pavilion to find the Fifth Battle Flag. Raising the Battle Flag yields +2 Fortitude. There's a ladder on the left side of the pavilion, climb down and jump on the rock platform on your right to find an item you can pick up. Go back down, jump across, grab another item here, and climb back up to the military campsite. Do not jump down! It will kill you.

Now, standing at the center of the military camp, and if you're facing the pavilion, head south. Don't go towards the east first since the door is locked and you can only open it from the other side. Now, going south, past a short wooden bridge, you'll see some makeshift wooden platforms connected to the cliffside path. As you approach the body to pick up the loot next to it, two Demonized Soldiers will climb up from the cliff to attack you. Defeat the enemies and be careful not to fall.

Third Marking Flag

Continue ahead but take caution since there is a brute-type enemy, the Demonized Officer that has 13 Morale. For a head start, ready your bow and aim for its head, shooting it will aggro the enemy and you can draw it towards a more open area so you can move easily while fighting it.

As you cross the makeshift wooden path, you'll see a dead end ahead where the Third Marking Flag can be found, but before you can raise the flag, immediately look to the left to see a Demonized Warlock enemy, get rid of it fast since it will cast spells at you from long range. After killing the Warlock enemy and grabbing the loot, go back and approach the spot of the Marking Flag to raise it. Go back to where you fought the Warlock enemy, head down the slope, and jump down to find a Demonized Fanatic and a Demonized Soldier enemy next to a small chest.

Proceed towards the cliffside path where you'll see more enemies, one is hiding behind a broken pillar on the left. And near it, you can pick up x2 Rank 2 Steel. Cross the rickety wooden platforms until your reach the other side where you'll find a ladder. Climb up and ready your guard, there is a single Yellow Turban Soldier on the left, waiting to ambush you, kill the soldier and open the small chest here. Now, cross the bridge but make sure to jump over the section of the bridge that looks dilapidated, if you walk on it, it will break and you'll fall.

Sixth Battle Flag

As you cross the rickety wooden bridge, you'll find the Sixth Battle Flag post on the other side, and a x1 Rank 2 Leather you can loot. Raise the Battle Flag to acquire +2 Fortitude. Next, you need to head to the lower section but be wary because there are two Chang Gui demon enemies that are empowered. If you want to surprise the enemy, from the Battle Flag, you can jump from above and land on the enemy to perform an overhead aerial attack. Nearby where you fight the two demons, you can find x1 Dragon Vein Essence on the ground.

Shitieshou Demon - First Encounter

If you head east, you can find a slope that goes back up to the Sixth Battle Flag, and along the way, you'll see a Shitieshou Demon by a campfire. Before you approach it, make sure to go up the slope, at the top, there's a rock formation that you can climb. At the top, you'll find x2 Rank 2 Steel. Go back down the slope, this time, at the bottom, turn left towards a dead end to find another item you can loot from the ground. Now, approach the panda demon and if you drop an item, you'll offer this and the demon will give you a random item in return after it consumes the item that you gave.

From the campsite where the Shiteshou Demon is, head straight towards the glowing red vines and jump to reach the top where you'll encounter a group of Yellow Turban Soldiers who are empowered by a Shaman that's on the left, on a podium. Be sure to take out the Shaman first to lower the unit's Morale, then eliminate the rest of the enemies. On the same spot where the Shaman was, you'll find x1 Rank 2 Leather that you can pick up from the floor — from the podium, turn around, approach the wall with white markings, and jump up.

Fourth Marking Flag

As you walk around the corner towards the next section, you'll see more Yellow Turban Soldiers and a couple of Shaman enemies. Just like the previous group of enemies you killed, take out the Shaman to lower the unit's Morale and then fight the rest of the enemies. From the spot where the three Shaman enemies were, walk to the right and you'll find the Fourth Marking Flag. Raise the flag to acquire +1 Fortitude.

The Demon Mermaid's Den

Next, head to the lower level which is a den where you'll encounter a mermaid demon, the Shuigui. There are three here, we suggest fighting them one at a time since they are quite agile and their attacks cover a wide range, making it challenging if two of these aquatic demons are fighting you. In the middle of the den, near the waterfall, there's a platform that you can jump on. You can use this to your advantage and strike them from afar using a ranged weapon. There's also an item here, also below, that you can pick up from the ground — once you've cleared the area, head towards the waterfall to find an entrance of a cave.

Inside, you'll encounter more Yellow Turban Soldiers. As you enter, turn right and grab the item on a table, then go to the left where you'll encounter a Demonized Officer and a Demonized Warlock enemy. After clearing the area, check the west side to find a large double door that you can unlock — open it to reveal a shortcut leading back to the Fifth Battle Flag where you fought previously fought the snake-like flying demon, Suan Yu.

The Last Battle and Marking Flags

Go back inside the cave and retrace your steps to the entrance, this time go to the right side where you'll encounter a shirtless Yellow Turban soldier that's roaming the area. Eliminate the soldier and if you look ahead, you'll see a couple more enemies guarding the Battle Flag post. As you approach the Battle Flag post, make a hard right and jump up the ground platforms where you'll find the last Marking Flag for this mission, take caution because the flag spot is guarded by a Chang Gui.

After defeating the demon and raising the last Marking Flag, head back down and defeat the remaining enemies guarding the Battle Flag spot. Make sure to kill the Shaman enemy first on the podium to lower the unit's morale. And remember that you need to kill the entire unit guarding a Battle Flag's spot before you can raise the flag, this will yield +3 Fortitude. Once that's done, all that's left is to reach the objective of this mission, which is on the west side of the last Battle Flag. Along the way, don't forget to grab the items inside a small chest, then jump down a boss arena where a cutscene will first trigger.

Boss Battle: Zhang Bao, General of Earth

Zhang Bao is a boss that uses magical attacks that involve the Earth element. As soon as the battle starts, rush towards him and use your Divine Beast attack to interrupt him. Zhang Bao will constantly teleport around the area, so you need to be quick with tracking him down since he will always try to keep his distance and attack you with long-range attacks. You can easily dodge his fireball attacks when he shoots it at you, but at the same time, you want to be aware when he casts a spell that conjures a burst of flame on random spots on the ground. This can be easily avoided by looking at the ground since it will glow red before the flames burst out from the ground.

Make sure you play it safe as well since if you constantly are close to him, he will release a cluster of flames that circulate and extend outwards from him. A good indicator when he casts a spell is a chime sound, whenever you hear the chime, be ready for what that attack will be since it is random and there is no pattern. Apart from his magical attacks, if you are also near him for too long, he takes out his sword and spins aggressively towards you. This can be blocked or you can dodge it at the right time.

Once you've applied about 30-40% damage to his health, Zhang Bao will teleport further from you and conjures a blockade of vines around him. This can damage you if you're too aggressive and get caught by the vines. So wait for him to conjure it and then rush in for the attack. Zhang Bao will also try to trick you, watch as he teleports away and teleports back to you for an unblockable grab attack. This can be determined when you see a red glow on the boss. Be ready to sprint away and dodge backward to avoid getting caught.

As his HP becomes low, his magical attacks become stronger such as the flames that he shoots at you becoming more than one or the cluster of flames now becoming multiple rings of fire. When this phase happens, take your time to avoid these magical attacks and strike in between. Also, allow your companions to help you out. Zhang Bao eventually summons Demonized Warlock enemies on the battlefield, so make sure to kill these warlock enemies first to stop them from buffing Zhang Bao. Successfully defeating this boss may drop the Ritual Sword of Chaos weapon and yields 3705 Accolades and 3920 Copper — defeating the boss completes this quest and you'll acquire a new Divine Beast, Qinglong.
