Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Zhang Fei Lore Information

Zhang Fei, courtesy name Yide, is a general hailing from Zhuo Commandery.

He, along with Guan Yu, joined the militia with Liu Bei to combat the rising threat of the Yellow Turbans and to protect the people. Soon, he would swear an oath of brotherhood with Guan Yu and Liu Bei and answer to Liu Bei. Thereafter, he would accompany Liu Bei at all times, and would go on to contribute to numerous victories under Liu Bei's name with his martial prowess and strategic cunning while leading an army. His valor, along with Guan Yu, is alluded to as matching that of ten thousand men. Though ill-mannered at times, Zhang Fei is cheerful and quick to make friends. He is also a hedonistic drinker, and his martial prowess and strategic cunning while leading an army. His valor, along with Guan Yu, is alluded to as matching that of ten thousand men. Though ill—mannered at times, Zhang Fei is cheerful and quick to make friends. He is also a hedonistic drinker, and his frequent inebriety has caused blunders on more than a few occasions.

Continuing his service to Liu Bei's effort to subjugate the Yellow Turbans, Zhang Fei fought battle after battle against the Yellow Turbans in the You and Ji Provinces. Ending up at the Yellow Turbans' hideout in Guigugou Valley, he mistook the protagonist as Liu Bei's assailant and attacked him in turn. Bearing no malice, Zhang Fei then sided with the protagonist to infiltrate a Demonic Qi—ridden cave deep within the Guigugou Valley. There, they witnessed a strange ritual overseen by Zhang Bao, a leader of the Yellow Turbans, before crossing swords with the General of Earth. With Zhang Bao collapsed onto earth, Zhang Fei, along with Guan Yu, swore an oath with the protagonist, impressed by his fighting prowess. Zhang Fei continued his strife with the Yellow Turbans until the rebellion had been pacified, with their exploits leading to Liu Bei‘s promotion to Prefect of Anxi County of Zhongshan State. The appointment was short-lived, however, as Liu Bei resigned in disgust upon answering to a corrupt inspector, and the three sworn brothers returned to wandering the land once again.

Dong Zhuo soon began a reign of terror, to which lords from Guangdong opposed by forming a coalition of punitive forces centered around Yuan Shao. Learning of this, Zhang Fei joined the coalition under Liu Bei's command to fight Dong Zhuo's tyranny. At the Battle of Hulaoguan Pass, the three sworn brothers took on Dong Zhuo's formidable general Lu Bu, but Lu Bu single—handedly proved superior over the trio, before taking off on his horse Red Hare. According to "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms," Zhang Fei charged Lu Bu head—on and went toe-to-toe with him in an effort to prove his worth to the lords, among them Yuan Shao, who held him in contempt.

While the forces of Cao Cao and Lu Bu were in a standoff, Zhang Fei was entrusted with defending Xiaopei, but his habit for drink got the better of him and the keep was captured by Lu Bu. Endeavoring to vindicate himself, he collaborated with his sworn brothers and the protagonist to successfully take back Xiaopei. Shortly after, they were caught by surprise by Yuan Shao's sudden strike, with Liu Bei disappearing in the wake of the attack and Guan Yu joining Cao Cao's forces. Zhang Fei, separated from his sworn brothers, wandered about Zhongyuan in search for the two. Upon reunion with Guan Yu at Yanj in, an intensely contested site in the Battle of Guandu, Zhang Fei accused him of being a traitor before challenging him to a duel. The two crossed swords, eventually working out their differences, and headed off to save Liu Bei, who was revealed to have been captured by Yuan Shao's forces. His bravery and loyalty have since been met with much applause across the realm.
