Mission Start Text

At Xianyang, Yu Ji's dark schemes resulted in the death of Sun Jian, the Tiger of Jiangdong. His sons and those who served him cannot spare even a moment of grieve, as they must escape from enemy territory. However, they find their way blocked when seemingly out of nowhere, a fleet of ships approaches from the river. You must assist Sun Ce and Sun Quan in making out safety and ensure that the brothers can maintain unity of the Sun clan.

There is 1 Shitieshou in this mission:

• First Shitieshou: The Shitieshou Demon in this area can be found on a hidden wooden platform near an elevated area around the third Battle Flag in the area. From the Third Battle Flag look for the rock formations that you can use to reach the upper area of this location. you will be encountering an enemy in this area and after defeating it, look on the other side of the cliff and notice the wooden platform where the Shitieshou Demon is located.

A Dark Tide Rolls In Battle Flag Locations

There are 6 Battle Flags in this mission:

• The first Battle Flag can be noticed once you start the mission. It is located on the same boat where you started.
• The second Battle Flag is located after the first sets of interconnected ships and you've access to the island. The Battle Flag is located near the garrisoned shack.
• You can notice the third Battle Flag after you progress in the area. After an area with a handful of tents deployed, the third Battle Flag can be located and it is near a locked shortcut.
• We will be using the Dragon Vein Essence loot as a starting point. Jump to the lower ground and you will notice an elite crocodile enemy. Pass this area, you will notice the fourth Battle Flag
• The fifth Battle Flag is hard to miss. Upon progressing in the area, you will encounter a larger ship where a locked door is located. Head to the back of the ship and notice that you can access the upper parts of the ship and there's a hole that you can jump into. Unlock the door and activate the fifth Battle Flag.
• The sixth Battle Flag can be missed. It is located near the area where the major boss is located.

A Dark Tide Rolls In Walkthrough

Following the events at Xiangyang where the Tiger of Jiangdong fell. Sun Ce's clan inherited their father's aspirations. The death of his father took a significant hit on both their army and clan's morale. They were forced to retreat with their ships but the enemy decided to pursue them. Sun Ce and the others sought refuge from a distance after getting away from their pursuers. However, they were ambushed and forced to fight on the sea.

From The First Battle Flag

Players will start on Zhou Yu's ship and will from different boats to progress. At the start of the area, you can access the nearest Battle Flag on the same boat to cater to your upgrades or sort your inventory before proceeding. If you are ready proceed to the nearest ladder and climb down or jump onto the next boat. You will notice a series of boats here that were lined up to form a series of paths that you can take to proceed. Get a Firecracker along the way and you cannot miss this. The main hurdle here is the projectiles that the enemy boats are throwing at you. A hit can topple you off to the waters and cause major damage. Count the intervals of each arrow shot wave for you to safely transfer from one boat to the next.

The path will lead you to an opened ship with two enemies inside. Clear them out and get the Large Genuine Qi Clot situated near you. Head outside of the ship and you will notice that the enemy ship is tied down to a nearby pillar. Kick down the pillar and the volley of arrows will stop since the boat will be destroyed and sink.

Activate the Second Battle Flag

Proceed by following the boats and eventually, you will reach the island and there are two enemies guarding the entrance. Take them out and you will see a pathway between the rock formations ahead. Get another Large Genuine Qi Clot where the path splits. Notice the upper area that you can't explore? Take note of these areas for now. Proceed to the nearby wooden bridge. Pass the wooden bridge, you will be dealing with four enemies. The fourth enemy is an archer situated on the garrisoned building on top of you. Deal with the three footmen in here while getting away from the archer's line of sight. Activate the Second Battle Flag so you can have a checkpoint in here. Rest and do your upgrades if you desire.

From the Second Battle Flag notice the path that leads to two towering rock formations. You are in the right area of the enemies that you are dealing with enemy forces. From the two towering rock formations here, head right and access the path that will allow you to traverse the upper areas. After climbing, you will notice a Marker Battle Flag nearby. Activate it to increase your Fortitude. Head to the next platform and open the chest that contains Wooden Poled Spear. Jump down on the wide-area beneath your current locations where there are enemies patrolling. Head back to the Second Battle Flag and proceed.

Activate The Third Battle Flag

If you are ready to go, from the Second Battle Flag, head to the lower section of the shack nearby. Climb up by accessing a plank that you can hop and jump into to access the shack above you. Outside the shack get a Mystic Cane. Head down to the lower area once again, head to the nearby shack, and open a chest that contains a Cup of Cordiality and Valiant Pirate Cap. From here, outside of the shack, follow the path that leads to a series of boats just like the first ones you hopped into. Get the Large Genuine Qi Clot near the first ship that you will go into.

Follow the straightforward path here and along the way, get the Libationer Guo Footwear situated near the boats that you are currently traversing. On the next ship, get the Valiant Pirate Greaves. On the same ship you will be dealing with shielded enemies in here so target their blindspots head to their backs and unleash your combination attacks to clear them quickly. After the battle, activate the nearest Marker Flag available and head to the nearest ship entrance that further leads you back to the island. You will know if you are in the right place if you see a secluded tent with a Demonized Fanatic waiting.

You will be dealing with the same enemies in here, quickly take them out and proceed. Demozed Fanatics are easy to deal with so you shouldn't have problems at this point. Pass the tents, you will notice the Third Battle Flag. Activate and rest if you desire. You can also notice the locked shortcut here which we will be unlocking later on.

Activate The Fourth Battle Flag

After resting, near the locked shortcut, there is a series of slopes that you can access to reach the upper area. After the slopes, you will be fighting a four-legged beast, an elite enemy with a large mouth. This beast is not hard, after dishing out multiple abilities, this beast will go down. After beating the four-legged beast, get an Elixir as a reward. Head to the other side of the slope and notice there is a Shitieshou Demon here, situated on a wooden platform.

You can exchange your weapons by dropping them, in front of the Shitieshou Demon and it will swallow the item and spit a new item. To proceed simply head down to the platform and another elite enemy is waiting for you. This is a demon equipped with a sword and shield. Prepare to counter speedy strikes. Time in your attacks and deal with your hardest-hitting abilities and martial arts to take out this enemy. After taking out this enemy, get the Large Genuine Qi Clot nearby.

Near the elevated shack, there's a chest hidden under the wooden platforms. Open it and get a Jianchu Long Sword. Climb the nearest platform and notice that there is a Marker Flag nearby located on the next platform. You can reach it by jumping on the platforms in front of you. After activating the flag jump down and get the loot located at the back of a tent which is a Bear Gall. Now head back to the platform again where you climbed to reach the Marker Flag.

Instead of going to the Marker Flag's direction, head to the opposite and notice a reddish organic bridge that spans out from different directions, I call this root bridge. You can use it as a bridge to reach unreachable areas. The first platform will have two bridges that you can cross, head to the right one first and get a Small Genuine Qi Crystal. Head to the other root bridge that you did not take and the root bridge will spiral across the area. Follow the path and eventually, the bridge will lead you to a platform where a Dragon Vein Essence can be acquired as a loot.

The lower area is infested with beasts. There are a handful of Demonized Fanatics and Demonized Warlocks here and also an elite demon that looks like a crocodile. After clearing the area, head to the broken ship and this is the entrance to the next area. Activate the Fourth Battle Flag in this area to unlock this checkpoint.

Activate the Fifth Battle Flag

Follow the straightforward path after resting at the Fourth Battle Flag. Once again, you will be traversing a series of ships to progress. Get the Large Genuine Qi Clot. The path will lead you to another broken ship. Before climbing the upper parts of the ship through the planks, destroy the nearby boxes and loot a Dragon's Cure Powder. Access the upper parts of the ship by jumping off the platforms here. You will be traversing a much larger ship this time. Head to the opening and you will find yourself following a straightforward path that will eventually lead you to the locked door. Hug the walls and head to the back of the structure and find a hole that you can drop into. Clear the enemies open the chest and get the following items Libationer Guo Crown and Han Soldier Bracers. Head to the next room there is a loot in the middle of the area. Acquire it and get a Blue-Eyed Child Greaves, a Tubo Cestuses, and a Silver Inlay Liubo Dice.

You will notice you just circled back to the previous area that you explored. This time, head to the locked door that we previously encountered. You can access the locked area by accessing the upper area of the structure and there's a hole you can drop into. Activate the fifth Battle Flag.

Unlock The Shortcut

It is time to progress and near the Fifth Battle Flag, head outside and look for the part of the ship where you access the lower parts of it which will give you the ability to traverse interconnected ships once again. Before you climb the nearest ladder, get the Large Genuine Qi Clot nearby. Use the ladder to reach the ships below. Traverse it and you will come across another ladder. Skip the ladder for now head inside the ship and open the chest that contains a Cavalry Javelin and a Firecracker. Head back to the ladder that we have skipped and access the upper parts of the ship. Notice a loot and get it which is a Warfare Classics. Backtrack and traverse the nearest wooden bridge and get a Firecracker along the way.

On the next ship, head to the lower parts of the ship and open a chest that contains a Sacred Lotus. Head to the nearest exit and you will notice that once again you can access a nearby land. Jump on it and you will be greeted with enemies but the one we should focus on is the Sword and Shield Demon that is guarding the area. This is the same elite enemy you defeated at the beginning of the area. After the battle notice the chest near a rock. It is hard to miss since its location is near where you have slain the elite enemy. Open it and get Flying General Greaves and a Libationer Guo Crown. Not far from your location, you can enter a ship where the Marker Flag is located. Activated the flag and backtracked to progress. After heading out from the ship, head to your right where you can find a series of wooden bridges. Destroy the crates nearby and get a Shigandang. Pass the wooden bridge you will notice a series of slopes that you can climb to. Upon reaching the upper area, get the Large Genuine Qi Clot near the shortcut. Unlock the shortcut and this shortcut will lead you to the Third Battle Flag checkpoint.

Activate the Sixth Battle Flag

Proceed by accessing the series of ships once again and along the way, get a Flying General Armor. Upon proceeding you will notice an enemy elite with a large axe. However, you will notice that a nearby ship is firing at you. You need to take out this ship first by traversing the nearby interconnected ships. Facing the Elite enemy, face on your right and you will notice a ship where you can jump into. Jump into it and follow the straightforward path that will eventually lead you to a pillar where a boat filled with barrels is tied into. Kick the pillar and the boat will slam itself into the nearby ship that keeps on firing the volley of arrows in the area. After successfully destroying the ship head back to the ship where you first encounter the elite enemy with an axe.

On your way back, there is a chest in one of the ships here. Open it and get a Jianchu Long Sword. Head out and near your location, you will notice a Marker Flag. Activate it and get the items that we skipped a while ago since we were in a rush to avoid the volley of arrows that were being fired at us. Get the Valorous Vanguard Greaves and Libationer Guo Gloves. It is time to confront the elite enemy with an axe. On the same boat, there's an item on the other side. Get it and receive a Valiant Pirate Bracers. To progress, follow the series of ships once again until you reach an island. You will be dealing huge worm-like demon here so proceed with caution. This enemy often uses its body to slam you. Time in your rolls or perfect blocks and counter.

After defeating the worm-like demon, head to the nearest ship and acquire the Five Minerals Powder loot and a Firecracker inside a chest in the same area. Not far from your current location, the interconnected boats will lead to another bigger ship. On top of this ship lies the Sixth Battle Flag. Activate it and rest. Proceed to the nearest wooden bridge and get a Firecracker. You will notice a long ramp here that you can use to reach the next ship. Before doing so, get the chest near the ramp and obtain a Jianchu Long Sword and a Yellow Turban Champion Helmet. Along the ramp, get the Flying General Gauntlets. Jump on to the next boat and a cutscene will play.

Defeat Gan Ning

After jumping onto the next boat, you will soon fight Gan Ning who's slaughtering Zhou Yu's forces. Gan Ning plans to eliminate you and the next perilous battle begins. Gan Ning is one of the major bosses in this DLC. He is equipped with gauntlets and adept in unarmed martial arts. In battle, he is capable of dealing hard-hitting combination attacks along with speedy unblockable attacks. Mastering the timings and countering these unblockable attacks is a must to gain the upper hand. Always try to read his moves beforehand before attacking. It is advisable to always let him attack so you can determine the right kind of attack that suits the situation. If you play with reinforcements, you will have an advantage since his attention will be divided into two.

One effective strategy is to be patient and wait for Gan Ning to attack your ally. When he does that, you can use your ability or you can deal with combination attacks to lower his health. Ultimately these are all surface-level knowledge and suggested strategies for this boss. It is suggested that you visit our dedicated Bosses page to learn more helpful tips for beating certain bosses. After beating Gan Ning you will receive the following items as rewards. Brocade Sail Captain Gauntlets, Brocade Sail Captain Greaves, Brocade Sail Captain Armor, Brocade Sail Captain Bandana, and finally, the Sacred Crow Cestuses.

After the battle, a cutscene will play. Gan Ning will manage to escape and Sun Ce and the others will come to the rescue. The band will also forward their thanks for your aid. Sun Ce also received a message from a possible ally and the next events will start to unfold. This will conclude the mission of Dark Tide Rolls. Upon completion, you will receive the following rewards as well. A Firecracker x2, Valiant Pirate Cap, Valiant Pirate Bracers and Yellow-Shouldered Crossbow.
