Huangfu Song, courtesy name Yizhen, is a warrior hailing from Chaona County of Anding Commandery.
He was both well—read and martially skilled, and a trained mounted archer. His grandfather was Huangfu Qi, the Commandant of Fufeng, and his father was Huangfu lie, the Procurator of Yanmen Commandery. After his father's death, he did not immediately enter into government service until receiving a summons from the emperor, which led to his appointment as a court advisor and the Procurator of Beidi Commandery. At the outbreak of the Yellow Turban Rebellion, he advised the emperor to lift the abolishment of the liberties of so—called "partisans" and urged the emperor to use his personal wealth to fund the campaign. After being promoted to General of the Left Court Gentlemen, he led an elite unit with Zhu lun to suppress the Yellow Turbans. His loyal and amiable personality, along with the fact that he rarely played up his achievements, meant he was liked by all who knew him.
Huangfu Song led the campaign against the Yellow Turbans. He met with the protagonist during his struggles against the Yellow Turbans on Mt. Dongshan, Taishan Commandery, and with his help, he was able to suppress the bandits. He went on to oppose a newly empowered Dong Zhuo, putting his life at risk, but his son pleaded for his pardon, allowing him to reconcile with Dong Zhuo. After Dong Zhuo's death, he set out to suppress a nest of demons that had overrun Meiwu Fort but had to be rescued by the protagonist once more after becoming surrounded. Lamenting his advancing age and weakness on the battlefield, Huangfu Song stepped down from all military and political affairs.
